How to Get Extra Help with Medications During COVID-19

During the Covid-19 pandemic many individuals need extra help financially.  Rx Outreach is a non-profit, fully licensed, mail-order pharmacy. They have developed a special financial assistance program dedicated to those affected by COVID-19. The typical financial requirements (see below) are currently waived for anyone whose financial situation has been impacted during the pandemic for a number of reasons such as: a family member is working reduced hours or has lost a job because of their employer, a family member needs to stay home with children or if they are having serious medical issues due to or related to COVID-19.

Medication Access & Migraine

Rx Outreach’s mission states they “believe everyone deserves access to affordable medication.” They offer more than 1000 medications that cover many chronic disease states. They are strictly mail order and ship directly to you. Patients only pay for the published Rx Outreach price for the medications. Rx Outreach has been in business since 2010 and has saved more than $320 million in prescription costs.

For the headache and migraine community many medications are used “Off Label” and are offered by Rx Outreach. They do not have offer any of the new CGRP monoclonal antibodies, or the new rescue meds in the ditan or gepant class, however you can visit CHAMP’s financial assistance guides for these new treatments. They do have many of the medications that are used in the headache disease community as well as many medications for co-morbid conditions. (Download the list below)

Eligibility Requirements

If you do not qualify for assistance through their COVID-19 program and still need extra help, you may still be eligible to receive medications at a reduced price.  Rx Outreach’s services ares offered regardless of age or insurance status. Patients can be on Medicare, Medicaid or other insurance plans and still qualify. They serve people whose income is up to 400% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). As an example, in 2019 a family of four with an annual household income of $103,000 is 400% of FPL. (Download the Fillable Application below for the Household Income Guidelines)

The application process can be done online, by phone or paper. An advocate from Rx Outreach will contact you within 24-48 hours once you complete the required paperwork.

The Household Income Guidelines and the Rx Outreach medication list can be downloaded below. Common migraine medications  are highlighted for your convenience.

Rx Outreach is helping to provide access to affordable medications. If you find this information helpful for you or someone you know, please pass it on.
